A 12 week introductory course to digital literacy.
Education and skill acquisition are important determinants of job and income prospects. There is a growing demand for workers with Digital skills. GirlCode aims to alleviate the current unemployment rise through a targeted digital skills training and job placement initiative, where women will be receive basic computer literacy training, which is a full-time 12 weeks course.
Training focuses on the Microsoft Office suite because it is the office automation application of choice in most organisations. It is an instructor led course that is delivered using a hands-on practical approach. Every participant uses a computer individually and learns everything from setting up emails, browsing the internet, creating a CV, applying for jobs online, and using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
The application process is fairly straight-forward. It contains a few parts. The turn-around from initial application to conditional acceptance is typically 1-2 weeks.
Part 1: First you complete the application form.
Part 2: Next you will be sent information regarding the training dates.
The recruitment will be based on candidates that meet the following requirements
- Gender: female
- Age: 18 – 35 years of age
- Employment: unemployed first preference
- Residency: Johannesburg
- Qualifications: Grade 12 certificate
- Commitment: 12 weeks of training
- Working English proficiency
- Commitment to the rigorous time and work demands of the program

What skills will I acquire?
Our training exposes you to the Microsoft office suite ( Word, Excel, Powerpoint). After 12 weeks, you’ll be proficient in writing documents, working with data in excel and will be ready to apply your skills at the job you want.
